November 23 marks the beginning of National Book Week activities in the Philippines, a longstanding celebration that champions literacy, reading, and the transformative power of Books. The observance brings schools, libraries, and communities together through literary contests, storytelling, book exhibitions, and creative programmes. It carries a distinctly Educational purpose, encouraging learners to cultivate curiosity, critical thinking, and a lifelong affinity for reading. The tradition dates back decades, with Proclamation No. 109 establishing the annual observance for November 24–30 beginning in 1937. Today, National Book Week continues to create a vibrant literary milieu where imagination, knowledge, and cultural expression flourish.
