Fastelavn

Celebrated on February 15 Fastelavn is a vibrant festival that exemplifies traditional Lifestyle rituals across northern Europe. In Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Greenland, Finland, Estonia, Faroe Islands, and Denmark, communities embrace this whimsical occasion with costumed parades, spirited games, and confectionery delights like “fastelavnsboller,” sweet cream‑filled buns. The air is buoyant. Children transform streets into arenas of joyful revelry, while adults partake in age‑old customs that marry folklore with conviviality. Fastelavn weaves cultural continuity with collective exuberance, resonating as both a cherished heritage event and an invitation to communal jubilation before the solemnity of Lent.
