November 22 commemorates National Larimar Day, an Educational and Cultural observance celebrating one of the most distinctive natural treasures of the Dominican Republic. Larimar, a rare blue-and-white variety of pectolite, occurs exclusively in the country’s Barahona province and holds a notable place within national identity and heritage. The occasion encourages Appreciation for the mineral’s geological singularity, as well as for the miners and artisans who transform its oceanic hues into intricate works of art. Established through Law No. 17-18 in 2018, the observance also promotes preservation, public knowledge, and cultural stewardship surrounding this remarkable Caribbean gemstone.
