Chatham Islands Anniversary Day

Chatham Islands Anniversary Day is a regional public holiday in New Zealand observed on the Monday nearest to November 30 and this year it will fall on November 30, 2026. Chatham Islands Anniversary Day is a historical and civic commemoration that reflects the unique identity of one of New Zealand’s most remote territories. This day marks the arrival of European settlers and their early interactions with the Moriori and Māori communities, laying the foundations for a distinct cultural heritage. It’s a moment of appreciation—not only for the island's rich past but also for the resilience and contributions of its people. From local ceremonies to community gatherings, the observance reinforces regional pride while recognizing the enduring legacy of the Chatham Islands in New Zealand’s national narrative.
